19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with former coach his previous coach.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since March of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
